Transferring SMU guard Brian Bernardi is headed back to New York.

The 6-foot-2 sophomore shooting guard from New York Xaverian picked Hofstra over Fairfield.

“At the end of the day, Brian had two really great options,” New Heights coach Chris Alesi told SNY.tv.

“Both Fairfield and Hofstra offered him the opportunity he was looking for leaving SMU. It was a difficult decision and a very tough week, but ultimately Brian just felt more comfortable at Hofstra.”

After averaging 3.5 points last season, Bernardi must sit a year per NCAA transfer regulations.

He averaged 19 points per game as a senior at Xaverian playing for coach Jack Alesi.
