  • Reports: Knicks Add Singleton, Will Release Thomas

    Share Zagsblog Share Zagsblog
The Knicks will add 31-year-old James Singleton and release 40-year-old Kurt Thomas for the stretch run, according to multiple reports.

The 6-foot-8 Singleton last played in the NBA with the Washington Wizards in 2012, and has spent this season in China with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers, where he averaged 15.1 points and 11 rebounds in 21 games.

Singleton will take Thomas’s spot on the 15-man roster. Thomas has been out since March 18 with a stress fracture in his right foot and is slated to have surgery next week, according to the Daily News, which first reported the Singleton news.

ESPNNewYork.com later reported the Knicks had come to an agreement with Singleton.

In Thomas’s final game with the Knicks, he went for six points and three rebounds in 27 minutes in a 90-83 win over the Utah Jazz that kick-started the current 13-game winning streak.

Thomas was the No. 10 pick in the 1995 NBA Draft, and holds career averages of 8.1 points and 6.6 rebounds.

Meantime, the Knicks will be without Tyson Chandler (neck) and Kenyon Martin (left ankle sprain) for Thursday and Friday’s games. They could return Sunday against Indiana.

Marcus Camby (plantar fasciitis) is also doubtful for Thursday’s game in Chicago, while Rasheed Wallace (left foot fracture) and Amar’e Stoudemire (right knee debridement) remain out for the Knicks.

The Knicks wrapped up the Atlantic Division title on Tuesday and are looking to be the No. 2 seed in the East when the postseason begins April 20.
