  • LIU’s Julian Boyd Done for Season With ACL Injury

LIU Brooklyn suffered a tough break when they lost senior forward Julian Boyd for the rest of the season to a right ACL injury sustained in the  Blackbirds’ win over Rice on Dec. 12.

The school will apply for a medical redshirt for Boyd after the season since he has appeared in fewer than 30 percent of the team’s games.

The reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Year, Boyd was averaging 18.5 points and 6.1 rebounds. The 6-foot-7 Boyd ranks 10th all-time on the LIU scoring list with 1,467 points.

Without Boyd, LIU Brooklyn beat Manhattan, 75-48, Sunday at home behind a game-best 23 points from senior Brandon Thompson. He scored 17 in the second half.

The Blackbirds have now won five straight since starting the season 0-4, including losses at Maryland and Kentucky, and have won 31 in a row at the Wellness Center.
