DeAndre Bembry, a 6-foot-6 Class of 2013 small forward out of Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick, will be contributing periodically to ZAGSBLOG during his senior season. Here’s his third entry:

I would like to thank every school that was interested in me.

My last two choices were in Philly between St. Joe’s and Temple.

They both are two great schools but I felt that St. Joe’s was the best choice for my career in college. My family also agreed that St. Joe’s was the best decision as well.

Now with my committment out of the way I can stay focused on my grades. I am officially a St. Joe’s Hawk. (Editor’s note: Bembry signed his NLI prior to the end of the early signing period on Wednesday.)

As for high school basketball, everything is going well at The Patrick School (St. Pat’s).

I’m looking forward to my senior year going out with a bang.

Said Ed Bright, the executive director of the Sports U program:

DeAndre is a great teammate. He is a guy who will fills up a stat sheet because he does so many things.

DeAndre is a basketball player. Constantly during the summer, every coach that came up to me said he’s just a basketball player. Rebounding, can finish off the break, solid jump-shooter, great passer. And probably if anyone understands the defensive concept  of help the helper, DeAndre gets it. He understands where he’s supposed to be in reference to where the ball is defensively.

He’s also a tremendous teammate. We’ve never had in our program anyone who was as great a teammate as DeAndre Bembry. Whether he’s on the floor or on the sideline, he’s a great teammate. His mom’s a great mom. He gets what it means to be a teammate.

Said Chris Chavannes, head coach at The Patrick School:

I think DeAndre and St. Joe’s are a great fit. DeAndre is the definition of “a player,” and he does many things well. His motor is probably his best asset. The school, the team and I are proud of his selection, and coach [Phil] Martelli is adding a great competitor and fine young man to his program. He has worked very hard  to develop and expand his game, and he is now as comfortable and productive  facing the rim as he is with his back to the basket.
