  • Carolina Visit Up Next for Nerlens Noel

Following his official visit to Georgetown, Nerlens Noel will head to visit North Carolina next week.

“He liked [Georgetown],” a source close to Noel’s recruitment told SNY.tv. “Planning on visiting Carolina next week.”

The source confirmed the Carolina visit, which was first reported by SNY.tv last week.

“North Carolina got a tradition that speaks for itself,” Noel said in a recent interview with FiveStarBasketball.com. “Very well coached by Roy Williams and that’s a great program and especially talking to him he told me some things about playing time right away and that’s a positive.

“I think I was more drawn to UNC, that was one of my premier schools I liked growing up.”

The Tar Heels are the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region and open on Friday against the Lamar/Vermont winner.

Should they advance, they would play Sunday against the Creighton-Alabama winner. That, in turn, might set up a showdown between former Ames (Iowa) High teammates Harrison Barnes of Carolina and Doug McDermott of Creighton.

Noel would likely visit Carolina Monday or Tuesday.

The subject of a lengthy feature by Pete Thamel of The New York Times, the 6-foot-10 Noel has cut his list to Kentucky, Syracuse, North Carolina, Georgetown and UConn.

He has already visited Syracuse and Kentucky in addition to Georgetown and may still visit UConn.

The Huskies are currently banned from the 2013 NCAA Tournament because of their APR scores which could, in turn, impact their ability to recruit unless they successfully appeal.
