Stan Simpson, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound power forward from John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill., has committed to Memphis over Kentucky, UConn and Kansas.

“Yep, I’m signing Wednesday,” Simpson, who will have two years of eligibility remaining, said Sunday by phone.

After visiting this weekend, Simpson said he liked “Coach [Josh] Pastner, the coaches and the atmosphere at Tiger Nation. They treated me like a brother down there.”

He averaged 14 and 8.5 rebounds last season and said he hopes to contribute right away at the four spot.

“I can shoot it real good, shoot the 3 , dribble drive to the whole,” he said. “Rebound, block shots.”

Asked how far Memphis can go next year when last year’s talented frosh will be sophomores, Simpson said, “Final Four-bound.”
