Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard has landed his first big man for the Class of 2011 in 6-11, 270-pound Isaiah Hill of God’s Academy (Texas.)

“I committed last week,” Hill said Friday by phone. “They was the only school that was interested in me. It seemed like they cared about me.”

Hill took an unofficial visit to Seton Hall Jan. 22 during the Rutgers game at The Rock. He was recruited by assistant coach Chris Pompey.

An Indianapolis, Ind., native, Hill averages 11 points, 13 rebounds and 8.6 blocks at God’s Academy. He said he also had offers from Texas Christian and Florida International, but hadn’t heard much from them.

“Seton Hall grabbed him at the right time because we played before 60 coaches this past weekend in Mississippi,” God’s Academy coach Tim Miller said by phone. “Everybody knew he was doing it [committing to Seton Hall].

“Isaiah will be a good power player for them,” Miller added. “Inside presence, shot-blocker, rebounder, knows how to score around the basket.”

Said Hill: “I”ll be a big factor on the defensive end for them. My offensive game is pretty good. I just need to work on getting up and down the court a little more.”

Miller said Hill still had to take his ACT, but expected him to be fully qualified.

“He’s getting ready to take his test,” Miller said. “He’s already on course.”

Hill joins signed guards Aaron Cosby, Freddie Wilson and Haralds Karlis, and committed guard Sean Grennan in Seton Hall’s 2011 recruiting class.

With the transfer of Ferrakohn Hall, the graduation of Jeff Robinson and the potential loss of Herb Pope, Seton Hall desperately needs frontcourt help going forward.

Seton Hall still needs two more bigs for 2011 and is also involved with 6-11 Lekan Ajayi of Quality Education (N.C.).

Hill said he hoped to get down to about 265 pounds for the Big East season.

“I’m looking forward to playing in the Big East,” he said.
