  • Big Recruiting Weekend at Xavier (UPDATED)

    Share Zagsblog Share Zagsblog
This has turned into a big recruiting weekend for Xavier and head coach Chris Mack.

D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, the No. 3 shooting guard in the Class of 2012 out of Indianapolis North Central, committed to Xavier during a campus visit.

“D’Vauntes chose X for a lot of reasons,” Kelana Rivera, Smith-Rivera’s mother, told Jeff Borzello of NBE Basketball. “One, that they believe in him so much and he believes in them. The pieces that they are putting together will be exciting. After all the campuses and coaches that D has seen, X feels like home to him. There are lots more reasons, but that’s the gist of it.”

The story was broken by Alex Kline at The Recruit Scoop.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Smith-Rivera also considered Georgetown, Indiana, Miami (Fla.), Ohio State and Wake Forest.

“D’Vauntes has been one of the best players that I have coached,” Mark Adams, Smith-Rivera’s AAU coach with Team Indiana Elite, told NBE Basketball. “He would fit great with any program in the country. Any program.”

On top of that, Michael Chandler, the No. 4 center in the Class of 2011, is enjoying his official to Xavier this weekend.

“I love it here!!!” he said by text.

The 6-10 Chandler, out of Indianapolis Lawrence North, said he’s also considering Providence, UConn and Indiana. He is expected to visit Indiana next week.

Xavier is also expecting St. Anthony point guard Kyle Anderson on an unofficial Nov. 5. He is the No. 1 floor general in the Class of 2012.
