Jabari Brown, the No. 3 shooting guard in the Class of 2011, has trimmed his list to seven schools and is planning visits.

“Washington, UConn, Georgia Tech, Oregon, DePaul, St. John’s and Cal,” Brown said by phone.

An Oakland, Calif. native who had a terrific summer with the Drew Gooden Soldiers, only has one official planned, to Washington Sept. 18.

“I’m going up to Washington,” he said. “That’s the only one I have but I’m working on a few more. I should have a few more set in the next few days.”

Brown will likely take an unofficial to Cal since it’s close and then perhaps take another unofficial as well.

“That’s what I’m trying to work out right now with my parents,” he said. “Where I take the other unofficial.”

Brown is one of several West Coast players actively considering St. John’s, along with Mesa (Az.) point guard Jahii Carson and Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep wing Amir Garrett.

“I still like St. John’s, still like [head coach Steve] Lavin,” Brown said.

“He’s a guy who’s coached at he top level before, at UCLA. He has a pretty open style and he has gotten a few guys to the league.”

Brown said he hopes to decide “before the early signing period” ends in November.
