Lance Stephenson to Enter NBA Draft

By Adam Zagoria on April 07, 2010, 8:26AM

NEW YORK — After initially saying he would remain at Cincinnati for his sophomore season, Brooklyn’s Lance Stephenson has decided to go the one-and-done route, SNY.tv has exclusively learned.

The 6-foot-5 guard will submit his paperwork to the NBA and plans to enter the June NBA Draft.

“I have decided to withdraw from the University of Cincinnati and  enter my name into this year’s NBA draft,” Stephenson said. “After carefully reviewing my options, it is now clear to me that the need to emotionally and financially support my family, especially my young daughter, along with my long-standing and burning passion to play in the NBA, outweighs my desire to return to the University of Cincinnati.

Josh Selby is NOT a lock to Kansas (Gangster U, as Jessie W likes to put it). I found the following on TheShiver.com, which is a Kansas hoops forum:

Maeshon Witherspoon 10 days until NYC Madison Square Garden. Baltimore will be well represented again in the Jordan game and Josh can make his college decision, I hope!!!!!!

Linda C. Gustafson I’m sure he will choose the right place for him. This will be on TV? Please be sure to post info, some of us out here are not sports fans – unless it’s watching one of mine!

Maeshon Witherspoon yes the game will be televised on sat the 17th on espn or espn 2 at 8:00pm. I hope so he keeps changing his mind

Kansas Fan: That makes it sound like we aren’t quite the lock we thought we were.

That’s GREAT news that he’s still not decided, even if it isn’t Arizona, there’s a chance :)

I think his mom meant he keeps on changing his mind as to when/where he will announce and not the actual decision. Anyway, I hope you are right.. gives UK and AZ some hope.. I’d still bet on KU though.

Yea, it does kind of sound like he is just trying to make up his mind regarding the time of the announcement, but if he was a lock to choose Kansas, I don’t think he would be waivering on when he will announce.

I bet he is a little concerned about whether Kansas will pull a UNC. Being a top 5 team one year, losing their top players to the draft, and then being a terrible team the next year. That, along with the fact that Bill Self is a redneck and doesn’t relate to his players very well probably has Selby second guessing his decision.

Did we “pull a UNC” after we won the 08 title and lost 5 starters and 6 out of our top 7? No, we won the big 12 and went to the sweet 16. if i were you i wouldn’t worry about that.

Bill Self doesn’t relate to his players very well? evidence?

on a side note… Xavier Henry press conference today at 3 central

i guess some fans need to just make stuff up to feel better about their own program no matter how absurd it is.

even if KU has a stumble like UNC did this past season, it is still a better situation then going to zona.

its between UK and KU, just like always. if selby is wavering on his announcement date, thats a pretty good indication he wants to go to UK. but UK might not have room for him of bledsoe is still on the roster and if UK lands knight which seems likely. bledsoe will enter the draft, but depending on his evaluation may decide to return. the deadline to pull out of the draft is may 8th. bledsoe is likely to know before that date. so if you see selby push off announcing, that is probably because he wants to see what happens with bledsoe.

there really is no other reason to postpone. knight will have decided by that time so there is nothing holding him up other then bledsoe.

You can never tell what the dynamic of a team will be when it has to redo it’s entire roster like UK will have too. UK got lucky that they had the chemistry that they did this year, that doesn’t always happen with lottery pick talent.

With that being said; Knight and Selby may not play well together and UK may stumble a little bit. Of course they will be young and inexperienced again this year which will hurt them come tourney time.

As far as Arizona landing Selby; I don’t give a shit! I hope we don’t get him. 2 reasons why; 1: he is not a true point guard, he is athletic and talented but what he showed at the McDonald’s game shows he would be better at the 2, same goes for Knight. Secondly Arizona needs to rebuild and we need a guard who will be there for at least 2 years, Selby is one and done.

I’ve said this a thousand times but I think Ray McCallum is a perfect fit for Arizona and that’s who I’m really hoping for. He is extremely athletic and is a TRUE point guard. He has the pass first shoot second mentality that all true point guards possess and his court awareness is unbelievable. His game reminds me of Mike Bibby and I think Ray will more than likely stay for at least 2 years. He is one and done talent, but I can see him staying for at least 2 years.

Well that sucks for Zona because Ray is going to Detroit. His Dad, the coach at Detroit, has not recruited a PG in over two years

Bostoncat, nothing AZhoops wrote was made up. That’s just something that he found on the shiver, or did you not read that part? Not made up all. Now it doesn’t mean he’s going to UofA of course, just a glimmer of hope. Although it sounds like you spoke with Selby personally so I guess Arizona is out.

ChicagoUK, thanks for the Dave Telep tweet update. That’s about five days old. And no Arizona fan expects to get Ray, Selby or Lamb; doesn’t mean we can’t hope for it.

GIve Miller a couple years and Arizona will start landing these players again.

My bad Bostoncat, you were referring to AZ hoops second post. My bad.

Never said we were gonna land him, just that it was the best fit out of the 3 we are in the running for.

Waste of talent for him to go to Detroit, but it is what it is.

So I guess no body actually wants to talk about Lance in the discussion section….. I’m disappointed

    Yes, about Lance …

After all the comments on this blog about him a year ago, he sort of fell off the radar didn’t he?

No offense to Cincy fans, but when he chose to attend school there he kind of fell off the map.

Cincy had some great teams under Bob Huggins – I think they could get good again, being in the Big East. They just need some solid players to build around.

Lance could be very good – he just has to be patient.
