    NEW YORK — Lance Stephenson’s return to Madison Square Garden began with a chorus of boos and ended with a disastrous turnover in the final seconds that led to two game-winning foul shots by St. John’s guard Dwight Hardy.

    With Cincinnati and St. John’s tied at 50 with 7.6 seconds remaining, Stephenson tried an in-bounds pass to teammate Deonta Vaughn under the Cincinnati basket.

    But Hardy alertly cut in front of Vaughn, stole the ball and was fouled by Dion Dixon.
