  • Calling James Beatty; Walker to Villanova

Miami Dade point guard James Beatty has still not announced his decision despite the passing of the May 20 NCAA late signing deadline.

Despite an Internet report that Beatty was deciding between Rutgers and Miami, a source on the Miami staff said the Hurricanes were not recruiting Beatty.

“Not right now, we’re not,” the source said. “We decided that’s not what we needed right now.”

Miami was in the John Wall Sweepstakes and has one scholarship left but is not after Beatty.

“I think Rutgers would be the best situation for him,” the source said.

Rutgers desperately needs a point guard for next year. Otherwise, Mike Coburn and Corey Chandler are the options.

Beatty and Miami Dade coach Matt Eisele have not answered their phones in recent days.

Speaking of Rutgers, Paul Franklin has a nice little piece on the Knights heading to Spain and the Canary Islands to play four games in four days. Wonder who runs the point on this trip?

Jerry Carino also reports that RU will play the following non-conference tilts: Marist, Vermont, Drexel, UMass, Michigan State or Florida, Colgate, at North Carolina, Princeton, Rider, Monmouth, St. Peter’s, NJIT.  The Vermont, Drexel, UMass and MSU/Florida games will take place in the Legend’s Classic, with the last two at The Rock in Newark.
