NEW YORK -- The basketball was rolling, rolling around the rim as the final buzzer sounded and the red light went off above the basket at Madison Square Garden.
As the final tenths of a second slipped away, the capacity crowd let out a collective groan and the postseason fates of both Villanova and Marquette hung in the balance.
When Dwayne Anderson’s last-second reverse layup finally dropped in, No. 4 Villanova had emerged with a dramatic 76-75 quarterfinal victory over No. 5 Marquette in the most compelling game yet of the Big East Tournament.
