John Riek won’t enroll at Cincinnati until at least December because he hasn’t yet received his ACT score, but he could be ready when the Big East campaign begins.
“If we can’t get John in this fall because his test scores and things aren’t done in time to enroll, then he will enroll in December,” head coach Mick Cronin said.
The 7-foot-2, 240-pound native of the Sudan committed to Cincinnati in August, but because he speaks limited English it remains unclear if he will get a qualifying score on the ACT.
Riek is also coming off ACL surgery in June and is still rehabbing at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
“With John, we can’t really assess his knee until we get him on campus and our doctors can look at him and the progress of his rehab,” Cronin said. “All we can go off of is what we’re being told by the people with his rehab in Florida. And they say it’s progressing great. He looks good. We’ve been down to see him, and he looks good.”
