Rafael Nadal will enter the U.S. Open with another major title under his belt.

Nadal won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics Sunday with a 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Fernando Gonzalez of Chile.

Nadal, who took over the No. 1 world ranking from Roger Federer this week, has enjoyed a glorious summer in which he won his fourth straight French Open crown and captured his first Wimbledon with a stunning five-set victory over Federer that many are calling the best match in the history of tennis.

Federer won the gold in doubles but has not won a Grand Slam event since last year’s U.S. Open.

Venus and Serena Williams won the gold in women’s doubles.
