As reported here last month, Orlando Antigua is leaving Pitt to join John Calipari’s staff at Memphis, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
The University can’t yet make a formal announcement on the hiring, but Antigua will join Josh Pastner and John Robic on Calipari’s staff. Rod Strickland was previously promoted to director of basketball operations.
Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon may now look to move director of basketball ops and East Orange native Brandin Knight into Antigua’s coaching spot.
A native of the Bronx, Antigua should help Calipari recruit the New York/New Jersey/Philly area. He effectively replaces Chuckie Martin, who departed Memphis in April to take the head coaching job at Marist. Martin also hails from The Bronx.
Antigua is the twin brother of Oliver Antigua, the head coach at St. Raymond’s in The Bronx. Orlando competed at Pitt from 1991-95 and later spent seven years with the Harlem Globetrotters.
